How does this work investigate “hope?”
”Hope is not merely a momentous event or change; it is the eternal of becoming. It is the possibility to picking up the fragments of possible encounters; through words and dialogue - of which it has been fundamental to our praxis in building on our rhizomatic networks of engaging critical masses through diverse cultural tactics. It is through the dialectics of hope, that we foresee the boundaries and the endless liminality of consciously (dis)orientating our collective's trajectories and its process of becoming.” —Muhammad Zikri Bin Abdul Rahman
About the work:
”How do we utilize book as an object of collective cultural intervention and an act of reclaiming public spaces as a tactic in redefining and developing our cultural democratization strategy? This is how Buku Jalanan as a ‘rhizome’ contaminates to almost 100 different chapters worldwide by experimenting with multifaceted praxis transcending and adapting to diverse socio-geographical context.
By strategically curating the books in guerrilla library; ranging from popular literature to banned books, in reclaiming various space of subverted sites; from book fair to protest sites, it does serves as a strategic entry point to spark endless potentialities of engagements. The network's dynamics does not go unnoticed as Malaysian government identified it as one of the ‘subversive groups’ for its roles in reimagining democratic and cultural process beyond conventional power structure, thus deepens the needs for Buku Jalanan to expand its cultural ecosystem; be it in running guerrilla arts exhibition to organizing alternative cultural cooperative to delve beyond abstract idea of organizing to politics of everyday life.” —Muhammad Zikri Bin Abdul Rahman
