How does this work investigate “hope?”
“If ‘hope’ is an interrogation about the future, then where might be our current predicament and possible field of escape? Tong Wenmin’s work Coral is a highly abstracted demonstration of the connection between the body and the nature—a body actively fused with the nature, embellished by capitalistic vocabulary, floats quietly on the sea. It denotes an engagingly multinaturalistic anxiety—a rethinking or re-enactment of the interactions between human and the external (nature). In face of the absolutely scientific/ materialistic/ consumeristic present, “body/action” might in fact be the last passage and entity of escape for human.” —NI KUN

About the work:
”Collect plastic bottles scattered throughout the island and string them up to the body. Float with the waves.” —Tong Wenmin
