In this event, Afreen Ali and Giangtien Nguyen talk about their innovative approach to designing the #ArtForJustice Virtual Gallery, a virtual museum designed and built to commemorate George Floyd. Imagined as a forum to speak up and a space for connection and solidarity, the #ArtForJustice Virtual Gallery is a reconsideration of what ‘museums’ can or should be. Watch below as the INVI co-founders discuss their visions for the potential of virtual platforms as a tool for empowerment and how their project came about in the days following the George Floyd protests, followed by a conversation with Karim Farishta, founder of #ArtForJustice, about art, architecture, and protest in the virtual realm.

Afreen Ali is a Native Houstonian and graduated from University of Houston with Bachelors in Architectural Science in 2017. Her interest has always been in arts and architecture. In Early 2020, she Co-Founded INVI an innovative visuals company, in which she is able to combine both her interests. As a painter, Afreen has an eye for creating digital spaces that give artworks the best environments. Alongside her position at INVI, she is currently pursuing investigation in architecture for humanity in YACademy in Italy. She hopes to bring connectivity, access to information, and power to explore the world through the virtual environment for people of all socioeconomics.

Giangtien Nguyen is a Vietnamese American graduated from the University of Houston, College of Architecture with a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 2012. She was awarded “Best of Show Design Award” in 2012 from the University of Houston, College of Architecture. She launched her professional career with an Interior Design Firm “Design + Services” from 2012 to 2014 specializes in residential interior renovations and designs. In spring of 2014, she returned to the Architectural Practice and began her Project Manager position at Smith & company Architects on March of 2014. She has been with the company going on 7 years specializes in renovation projects in K-12, higher education, and multi-family housing development projects. Her passion has always been with renovations and the process of making an existing or abandoned structure more efficient and beautiful again is a very challenging yet captivating process. With that same passion, on March of 2020, she co-founded INVI, a virtual architecture firm. While our entire world is hit with a global pandemic, INVI presented valuable solutions to our society, renovating our current lifestyle and habits, while helping each other to become more connected and efficiently maximize our global accessibility.
